Re: Tuscarora Almanac for June 29

Posted by Stephen Bauman on Mon Jun 29 19:06:48 2026, in response to Tuscarora Almanac for June 29, posted by irtredbirdr33 on Mon Jun 29 09:57:23 2026.

This was not the complete end of streetcar service in Manhattan. Several of the Bronx trolley line would continue to operate into the northern section of the borough until August, 1948. The Queensborough Bridge Railway would operate until 1957.

You left out the Brooklyn trolleys that ran over the Williamsburg Bridge until December 6, 1948 and the trolleys that ran over the Brooklyn Bridge until March 6, 1950.

To be a purist, none of the bridge trolleys actually ran on a Manhattan Street. They all ran directly from a bridge into an off-street terminal without ever entering any part of the Manhattan street grid.
