I saw a group of them once several years ago while I was biking over the bridge. They were using the long straight stretch on the incline of the bridge approach on the Brooklyn side, between the curve over the bus terminal and the stiffening truss which starts near Kent Av. It's about 1800' of straight track with no obstructions at all. Because it's part of the bridge, the reports say they're on the bridge, but they're on the approach, not the bridge itself. Because of the incline the trains don't go especially fast in either direction, but I still can't believe how reckless they were, jumping and running back and forth and leaping from car to car, sometimes passing each other. For a while they were using parts of the #7 line. One was once killed near Rawson St, and our train was delayed while they retrieved the body. Later, as our train approached Citifield we heard others running on top of our train. It was so strange hearing footsteps and pounding on the roof of a subway car. |
