BMT “A” Type 2700 becomes the first subway car to enter the new 14th Street Subway. As built it was known as 14th Street-Eastern District Line and was isolated form the rest of the BMT system. A temporary track was laid in the street from the nearby Long Island Railroad Yard to Montrose Avenue station. A ramp was constructed over the Manhattan bound track. A cable winch was then used to lower the new cars into the subway. This arrangement lasted until 1928.
