A long, long time ago in Black Patch lore, I had a "hat" surprise me (totally a rookie mistake and my fault) by smashing his Walkman (back when they were still the big rectangles with the cassette and radio band) on the bridge of my nose as I was collaring him, blood gushed out out my nose and the chase was on, I chased this felonious flyer for what seemed like an eternity although it was 3 blocks at most. After what seemed like half of the police agencies and commands Manhattan showed up, we apprehended him, gave him a beatin' that made Rodney King looked tame, fucked him up real good. I go to St. Vinny's to get my nose looked at. Just broken, that was all. Anyway, collar gets reassigned to my friend KR and he's at Bellevue with perp, have to meet him to give him pertinent info. Perp os in hospital bed , I asked him why he was so stupid to do that when all he would have got was a DAT. He told me "I'm black, we are told to never obey the police and make it easy, as we getting arrested anyway!" So then I said but look at you now, in the hospital all fucked up, he told me"yeah, but I could have also got away!" THAT'S their mindset!! |
