I know that the platforms of that new express station, and the extended sections of the local station, were built as such:- 4' 11-3/4" from track center to permanent edge - 4' 8-1/4" from track center to temporary edge (rubbing board width 3.5") This standard had been in effect since 1923 when the Transit Commission (available via Google Books or HathiTrust) put out a book of specs for how to build subways, with drawings, measurements, et al. I wonder if the Times Square terminus of the #7 line had their platforms originally built like that. It would last until the building of the new South Ferry terminus of the #1, where the gap between platform and car door threshold was deemed too wide. |
