IMHO that was sheer coincidence. 6609 just happened to be running on the shuttle during one of the two days that sequence was filmed. If you watch that sequence closely, you'll notice that the car numbers change between the time the train first pulls out (and Hackman orders a grape drink) and returns later. I read that 6609 had experimental air conditioning installed and removed when things didn't pan out. That would make sense why it was kept.Of course, 4572-73 were preserved specifically for their role in that movie. A pity 7339 wasn't saved after being a virtula co-star in the original Pelham One Two Three movie. |
