Tuscarora Almanac for April 18

1978 – from The Book of First Runs

Q-Type 1612C arrives at the Transit Museum at Court Street. The car is painted in the 1938 blue and orange scheme. 1612C along with sister 1602A are the last two BMT wooden el cars in the “Q” (for Queens) configuration. 1602A resides at the Trolley Museum of New York in Kingston.

1983 – from The Book of First Runs

Port Jervis Line trains are re-routed from the former Erie Railroad Mainline to the Graham Branch between Harriman and Middletown, New York.
New stations at Middletown and Harriman replaced the old stations on the mainline. New stations were opened at Salisbury Mills and Campbell Hall. The stations at Monroe, Chester and Goshen were closed.

1988 – from The Book of First Runs

A new ferry service known as the "Williamsburg Express Ferry" begins operation between the Whitehall Street Ferry Terminal in lower Manhattan and the Kent Avenue Pier in Brooklyn. This is being done in response to emergency repairs on the Williamsburg Bridge which necessitated suspending subway service. The two smallest vessels in the Staten Island Fleet, the ALICE AUSTIN and the JOHN A NOBLE are used for this operation. Service ended on June 10, 1988.

This was the first time since the mid 1960’s that a municipal ferry service, open to the living public, has run on the East River.
