Coal was a compromise choice. The point is to burn whatever fuel you have to make steam. The ATSF would never have crossed the desert if they could not have had oil-burning steamers.Are steamers fired with straw and sugar cane also not "real" steamers? How about steam cars that were all fired with (gasp) gasoline? |
