I agree.But I'm wondering why Grand St on the L in Brooklyn has barriers along the length of the platform but the next station, Graham Ave, doesn't. At Graham it's only around the center of the platform. Another consideration is traffic patterns. Some stations have a lot of passengers waiting on one side but not the other. For example, 63rd/Rego Park Manhattan-bound platform gets crowded because a large number of people are waiting for a train. So I'd say this station needs barriers along the length not just the middle of the station. On the other side of 63rd/Rego Park, Forest Hills-bound platform, has a relatively small number of waiting passengers. The more crowded the platform the closer people get to the edge and the more likely it is someone falls or gets pushed. I'm thinking this is the strategy used by MTA/NYCT when installing the barriers. |
