1905 – from The Book of Last Runs

The 66th Street Yard of the Second Avenue L is closed. This was an eight track yard located between Second and Third Avenues and 66th and 67th Street. It contained a storehouse, sawmill, coal facilities and a black smith shop.


1919 – from The Book of Wrecks

The freighter WAUBESA outbound for Europe collides in heavy fog with the Staten Island ferryboats MAYOR GAYNOR and QUEENS. The ferryboats suffer some damage but the WAUBESA sinks.


1954 – from The Book of Last Runs

This is the final day of steam operation on the Erie Railroad. The last run is made by K1 Pacific 2530 operating on New Jersey and New York Railroad. (today’s Pascack Valley Line).
