I have the answer which I got from then old timers in the schedule office. When 6th Ave opened in 1940 the IND supt wanted to operate the resurrected AA as a 24/7 service and operate the concourse local as a DD in rish hours with the D running as the Concourse express. Someone higher up opted for retaining the CC as a rush hour only service with a Wash Hts lcl the BB running during rush hours the pattern which subsisted for years even into the post Chrystie days when the BB became the B. As a side note, the C was retained as a rush hour only Concourse 8th Ave express operating alternately with the D service until after WWII when the C as an express was dropped. |
