Posted by irtredbirdr33 on Thu Jan 15 08:27:33 2026 Tuscarora Almanac for January 15 and a Train of The Week 1916 from The Book of First Runs The BRT Fourth Avenue (Brooklyn) Line is extended from 59th Street to 86th Street. 1953 from The Book of Wrecks Pennsylvania Railroad train No. 173 The Federal Express, headed up by GG-1 4876 fails to stop on Track 16 and crashes into the main waiting room at Union Station in Washington, DC. The weight of the engine is so great that it collapses into the floor below. Forty three people are injured. The GG-1 is cut into three pieces and sent to Altoona, Pennsylvania for rebuilding. It was later put back into service and now resides at the B&O Museum in Baltimore, Maryland. 1956 from The Book of Last Runs This is the last day of streetcar service in Dallas, Texas. Note: Light rail service returned to Dallas on June 14, 1996 with the opening of the DART light rail line. 2010 from The Book of Last Runs New Jersey Transit closes the Great Notch station on the Montclair-Boonton Line. Tuscarora Train of the Week No. 4 New York City Transit Authority Division B Rt. QJ Jamaica Nassau Street Brighton Line Time Period: December 1967 The QJ operating as the Jamaica-Nassau Street-Brighton Line was in operation from November 1967 to December 1972, a little over five years. This essay will look at the service as it operated in December 1967, the month after the opening of the Chrystie Street subway. QJ trains ran between 168th Street-Jamaica and Brighton Beach on weekdays. Southbound trains left 168th Street 6:29 AM to 7:20 PM. Northbound trains departed Brighton Beach from 5:56 AM to 5:27 PM and 6:14 PM to 7:47 PM. There was a forty five minute gap in northbound service in the evening. During this time service from Broad Street to 168th Street was provided by RJ trains. There was a corresponding gap in southbound service in the morning. The last JJ to Broad Street left 168th Street at 5:13 AM. RJ trains provided service from 5:28 to 6:19 AM. QJ trains made all stops between Essex Street and Brighton Beach. They ran express on the Broadway-Brooklyn Line between Eastern Parkway and Essex Street southbound from 6:30 to 9 AM and northbound leaving Brighton Beach from 2:50 to 5:30 PM. The only intermediate stop was made at Myrtle Avenue. Skip-stop service was provided on the Jamaica Line southbound leaving 168th Street from 7:06 to 8:23 AM. These trains stopped only stations designated with an A or AB. This service was formerly run by the no. 15 Jamaica Express. A stations were 168th Street, Sutphin Boulevard, 121st Street, 111th Street, Woodhaven Boulevard, Forest Parkway, Elderts Lane, Crescent Street, Cleveland Street and Eastern Parkway. One train left 168th Street for Broad Street at 7:58 AM. Several northbound trains were put in service at Alabama Avenue between 4:30 and 7 AM. Four trains left Brighton Beach in the AM rush and terminated at Eastern Parkway. In the PM there were two put-ins each from Eastern Parkway and Chambers Street which ran to Brighton Beach. Train ran with eight cars of R-16 or R-27s and even the R-11s. They carried Red-Red marker lights. The QJ was shown on subway maps with the color black.
