Posted by irtredbirdr33 on Mon Dec 22 07:40:06 2025 Tuscarora Almanac for December 22 1978 – from The Book of Last Runs The last R-46 subway car, 1216 is finally delivered to the NYCTA. The 754 cars in the R-46 order where built by the Pullman-Standard Car Manufacturing Company. Due to a strike the delivery of the entire order took over three years. Trivia: Two of the R-46’s , possibly 813 and 816 made a side trip to Venezuela before entering subway service. Ed.Note: Now we are at the point were the R-46 are running off their last miles on the subway system. 1979 – from The Book of First Runs The Metropolitan Atlanta Regional Transit Authority opens its first rapid transit line. It is the East-West Rapid Rail Line and runs between Georgia State and Avondale stations. 1986 – from The Book of First Runs A new passageway known as the West End Concourse opens at Pennsylvania Station. It serves tracks 13 through 19 and connects to the 8th Avenue subway. |
