Historically, this discontinuance was said to be the start of what some would call the "de-Brooklynization" of Brooklyn, followed in that order by:- the Dodgers moving to Los Angeles in 1958 (ironically, in their first few years in L.A., there were still "trolley dodgers" in that city, owing to what was left of the once-vast Pacific Electric streetcar network) - the last of the "trackless trolleys" being retired in 1960 - the final closure of Steeplechase Park at Coney Island in 1964 - the retirement of the BMT "Triplexes" in 1965 - the retirement of the BMT "AB Standards" and the closure of the Myrtle Avenue elevated line, both in 1969 |
