Posted by irtredbirdr33 on Sat Oct 18 09:17:02 2025 Tuscarora Almanac for October 18 1920 – from The Book of Last Runs The elevated El car shuttles on the Canarsie line between Rockaway Parkway station and the Canarise Pier are discontinued. Service along the former right-of-way will now be provided by trolley cars. 1967 – from The Book of Wrecks The Long Island Railroad’s only two RDC’s collided with a loaded sand truck in Holtsville, NY. The engineer, Mr. Patsy Molese was killed. The lead car, no. 3101 was badly damaged and eventually scrapped. The second car, no. 3121 was sold to the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. 1999 – from The Book of First Runs The Franklin Avenue Shuttle re-opens for service after being closed since July 1998 for reconstruction. The first train is run for the media with R-68’s 2921-2920. Regular service begins just after 10 AM with the above train and R-68’s 2922-2923. Source: New York Division Bulletin /December 1999 Personal Note: The late Mr. Doug Diamond aka BMT Man was very interested in the re-building of the Franklin Avenue Shuttle. He provided us with frequent updates on the old Sub-Talk Bulletin Board. Larry, RedbirdR33 |
