Tuscarora Almanac for October 161948 – from The Book of Last Runs The Staten Island Railway discontinues the Tottenville - Perth Amboy Ferry across the Arthur Kill River. The final crossing is made by the ferry CHARLES W. GALLOWAY. She was built in 1922 and was the last sidewheel ferry to operate in New York City. (Note: Service on this route will continue until 1962. It will be operated by Sunrise Ferries using different vessels.) |
