1958 – from The Book of Wrecks

Jersey Central Railroad Train No 3314 en-route from Bay Head to Jersey City runs through the open Newark Bay Drawbridge. Two diesels and three cars fall into Newark Bay. The engineer, fireman and forty six passengers lost their lives.


1971 – from The Book of First Runs

The first of the new MTA M-1A "Metropolitan" electric mu cars begin service on Penn Central’s Hudson Division. The M-1A’s are numbered 8200 to 8377 and would go to serve Conrail and Metro-North.


2002 – from The Book of First Runs

The South Ferry (Loop) terminal and the Rector Street station return to service for the first time since September 11, 2001. The first No.1 train had cars 2210-06 and 2196-2200.
