On this date in 1980, I hit the road for Colorado.In 1973, I got my driver's license on this date. And on that very same day, the late Wayne aka Mr. Slant R-40 experienced the worst subway experience of his life, the Express Ride from Hell, aboard a crush-loaded prewar Fred train while rocking and rolling through the 53rd St. tunnel. Someone in the same car he was riding in lost their lunch, and because the car was so tightly packed, he couldn't get off until Continental Ave. As he put it, "It was terrible!" |
