Tuscarora Almanac for July 15

1910 – from The Book of First Runs

The Pelham Bay Monorail begins trial service today running between Bartow Station on the New Haven Railroad and Marshall's Corner at the west end of the City Island Bridge. Regular passenger service begins two days later. On the initial run the car derails injuring the motorman and several passengers.

Tuscarora Forgotten Station No. 5 / Mount Loretto

Staten Island Rapid Transit Railway Company
Tottenville Line
Mount Loretto Station
Passenger Service Ended: 1939

Mount Loretto station was located on the grounds of the Mount Loretto Orphange on Staten Island. It was reached by a mile long spur from the Tottenville Line of the Staten Island Rapid Transit Railway. The spur connected to the mainline just south of Pleasant Plains station and was mainly used for coal deliveries. Once a month a special train would operate from Saint George directly to Mount Loretto. It consisted of two to three of the ME-1 electric MU’s hauled by a steam locomotive since the spur itself was not electrified. The special trains continued to run until 1939. Freight service lasted until about 1950.
