After car 1575 was rehabbed at Berwick, Pa., Dad brought me to the 207th Street station searching for it. The towerman said we were lucky. It was on a northbound train arriving in a few minutes. We rode for part of the southbound trip. Dad disliked the way the transverse seats were shoved a few inches into the car frame. Also, the roller signs were smaller. And the fans were now in small cages. In school, the teacher assigned a composition "autobiography" of an inanimate object. I wrote of car 1575. Years later, Claire and I found ACF in Berwick. |
