Stylistically, the IRT SMEES from the R-17s through thr R-36s blended well, paint jobs notwithstanding. It was a whole different ballgame on the IND/BMT. While the R-16s blended in almost seamlessly with the R-27/30s; the R-32s with the R-38s and the R-40Ms with the R-42s, anything else thrown together resulted in a mutt or mogrel train. The slants stuck out like sore thumbs, kind of like 1575 in an prewar consist. |
