Posted by irtredbirdr33 on Thu May 8 10:39:03 2025 Tuscarora Almanac for May 8 1950 – from The Book of Wrecks The Long Island Railroad trestle across Jamaica Bay is badly damaged in a fire that results in the permanent suspension of service on the Rockaway Beach Branch between Hamilton Beach Station on the Queens Mainland and the Rockaway Peninsula. The stations at The Raunt and Broad Channel are closed. 1974 – from The Book of First Runs A fire on the Poughkeepsie Railroad Bridge leads to a permanent suspension of service. The bridge had opened in 1889 and had a length of 6768 feet. It was 212 feet above the river at its highest point. The bridge re-opened in 2009 as a pedestrian trail. Larry, RedbirdR33 |
