The R Nassau route , at that time, was pretty much operated as extra M line service.Trains were Not operating out of Chambers St,but were running in service all the way between Metropolitan Ave and 95th st. Such a service would be pretty handy today, given the heavy platform saturation at Jay st,long waits for any R service between Canal st and South Brooklyn. Today's DeKalb Avenue station is hardly the station it was. Service has been reduced there extremely, from 6 lines to 3. It is Only during the late evening and overnight, when the D and N lines are available,at 20 minute intervals,if that. Literally,it has been transformed, from a once bustling crossroad, to the ghost town we have today. Clearly, this is the "MTA Answer" to the so called overflow conditions we Use to see at this station. Reduce the through put, give little variations to service, watch passengers find another way around. Don't get me wrong. The Brighton and 4th avenue service needs are being met ,to the bare minimum. Just the way the MTA wants it. |
