Riders on the 7 will remember what happened on this date in 1969.Tom Seaver came to within two outs of a perfect game as he shut out the Eastern Division-leading Cubs, 4-0. With one out in the top of the ninth, Jimmy Qualls spoiled the bid with an opposite field single that fell in between Cleon Jones and Tommie Agee. Agee admitted that he'd though of moving a few steps over to left, but by the same token, no one knew much about Qualls. I remember watching that game on Channel 9. We had just returned from our vacation trip to Florida earlier that day. |
