Re: Tuscarora Almanac for April 26

I have not one, but two entries for todays Book of First Runs.

Denver, Colorado
Regional Transportation District
April 26, 2013

Denver's newest light rail route to date, the 12.1-mile West Corridor or W line between Union Station and the Jefferson County Courts and Adminstration Building, known by locals as the Taj Majal for its strong resemblance, opened today. For most of its route, it follows the right of way of the former Associated Railroad and Denver Interurban Transit line. In fact, during its construction, old rails were pulled up in many locations. The line is double-tracked as far as the Federal Center station, which has three tracks to accommodate short-turn trains, and single track the rest of the way to its terminus in Golden. The lone exception is the Red Rocks Community College station, which has two tracks, and schedules are set up so that two trains always pass each other there. The I-70 underpass has room for a second track, but the tunnel under Union St. can only accommodate one track.

Denver's newest commuter rail line, the 11-mile Gold or G line between Union Station and Wheat Ridge, opened today after a 2 1/2-year delay. It is double-tracked except through Arvada, where it is single track. Unlike the A line, whose intermediate stations all have side platforms, this line has a mixture of side platform and center island platform stations. This line is not to be confused with the original G line that opened in 2006 and was discontinued. That line has been resurrected as the R line.
