When the Lex exp (#5) was the principal daytime service N/O E 180, Lex service was available to passengers at the local stations so the existence of the thru exp was of little consequence. When the 7th Ave (#2) became the principal service the Lex Thru exp service left passengers at the lcl stations with no direct east side service so it was decided the the thru exps would make lcl stops N/O E 180s. Of course now there is no Lex service at all between E 180 and 149th during rush hours but it seems that the passengers S/O E180 don't have the political clout of the people N/O E 180. |
