I got that.Back then, it was pretty common for the TA to have multiple subway car orders being built at the same time. The R40a and the 42s are prime examples of this, along with the the R38 and 40. The strike at the STL plant forced that overlap, and caused a cascading effect on the rest of the upcoming orders. The R10, 12,and 14 were all being built at the same time, while the 15 came hot on the heels of the last 14. The R26, 27,28,29,30,33,36,32,were All being churned out back to back from 1959 to 1965. The 38s paused the output for a bit, only to be thrown right back.. 66/67/68/69 saw the delivery of the R38, 40,40a,42. 1970 brought the First R44, which was rejected, but the program wasn't set back, since they returned in 1971.. Hot on the heels was the lookalike cars, R46, which were delayed for several years until 1975..breaking up the record for consecutive delivery of newly contracted subway cars. It's been downhill ever since. |
