One of my favorite scenes in a great movie. Pre-GOH R-38s (with Darth Vader brakes, unfortunately, you can't hear them on the soundtrack 😕 )In the script, looks like Lisa and Akeem boarded at Van Wyck and Lisa got off at Sutphin Blvd (recall the movie was filmed before Archer Av opened, so the E was headed to 179th St). In real life, the southbound track at the Transit Museum "played" Van Wyck. Obviously they cleared out all the cars, then the R-38s were driven all the way to the bumping block, then moved forward so they appeared to be pulling into the station (probably another reason for a 4-car consists, although, I don't know what time of night that was, it could be that the E really was running 4 at that time). Sutphin is actually Hoyt/Schemerhorn, again with the s/b track from the Museum. They probably filmed late at night, but they would not have interfered with regular A and G service. You might have noticed that the train was moving relatively slowly between Consist was 3972/3, 4033/2. In the film, 3972 was the north motor, but in real life, it was actually traveling RAILROAD south. Only on the NYC subway system 🙂 |
