Re: What does a Train Operator do?

Posted by randyo on Sat Mar 25 02:31:50 2023, in response to Re: What does a Train Operator do?, posted by Spider-Pig on Thu Mar 23 17:20:09 2023.

Up until a few years ago, even CTA’s female operators were referred to as “motormen." A CTA Instructor I know told me that recently the title was changed to Rapid Transit Operator” (RTO) since all CTA’s trains are now OPTO so the M/M does ore than just start and stop the trains. I understand that in Canada there are no C/Rs only T/Os who split the traditional C/R’s and M/M’s duties with one operating the train and the other operating doors in one direction and switching duties for the return trip. I suspect NYCT may eventually do the same thong and eliminate the actual C/R’s title entirely with all T/Os OPTO qualified.
