Used to be the test for T/O was not open competitive and promotional only.Back in the 80's I took the combined Bus Operator/Conductor test and of course Bus Operator I was called for first then two years later for Conductor. Then they opened up Train Operator to open competitive and people took the test "off the street". Here is the notice from the February 2009 Promotional Train Operator Test: https://www.nyc.gov/assets/dcas/downloads/pdf/noes/200808562000.pdf Here is the notice from March 2009 Open Competitive Test: https://www.nyc.gov/assets/dcas/downloads/pdf/noes/200808098000.pdf Promotion Qualification: At the time of promotion from the eligible titles of Conductor, Tower Operator or Bus Operator, you must be either permanently employed in one of these titles or your name must appear on a Preferred List for one of these titles. Open Competitive: Education and Experience Requirements: By the last day of the Application Period you must have: 1. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, approved by a State’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization; and 2. Five years of full-time, paid satisfactory work experience. College education may be substituted for experience on the following basis: One year of acceptable experience will be credited for each 30 credits completed at an accredited college, up to a maximum of four years. However, all candidates must have at least one year of full-time satisfactory, paid work experience. Part-time paid experience will be pro-rated. |
