Re: This MARTA Train Sounds Like An R142

Back in old BMT days, there were 2 groups of Multis, some with GE propulsion systems and eddy current brakes in lieu of dynamic and some with WH propulsion systems and dynamic brakes. Although they did sometimes run in mixed consists, it was preferred to avoid mixing them as they did buck rather violently during braking in mixed consists. It also seems that the GE cars were better performers so during times when only a single unit was operated, operating a single WH unit was to be avoided. In later years on the IRT when mixed trains of all IRT SMEEs were operated, the older cars like the R-12s through 15s didn’t perform quite as well as the newer cars.
