The route would have serve more riders if the line pushed past 205th st.Plans called for an elevated tressel to carry cars And the subway to bridge the Bronx River and terrain,since the elevation was higher at perry than across it. As a matter of fact,the difference is so dramatic,that the extension phased. The BOT wrestled with the area, especially along Burke Avenue. Even set up engineering,but money was tight,and the desire to reactivate the Dyre Ave route was a flaming mess. Playing cheap was the route the BOT TOOK,and Burke was deferred. Even today,the route is brought up from time to time,but the MTA ignores every effort. It's Not high priority on their TO DO LIST. |
