To continue that thought. Hoboken is a nearby modern day example which proves that the ferry-rail combo can still work in the Tri-State area and for LIC more specifically, but the LIRR tried doing that with NY Waterway a couple of decades ago to little success, and neither the LIRR or NYC Ferry seemingly have any interest in coordinating their services with each other.
