Posted by kp5308 on Tue May 24 19:28:12 2022 Reading and Northern ran 2 trips on Saturday using the RDC fleet. The Pottsville trip ran with ex-Southern Railroad of New Jersey RDC1 #7, purchased by the RBMN along with 2 F7As in 2017. The Budd was refurbished and renumbered 9167 before being placed in service. This view is at Leesport: Schuylkill Haven:   Pottsville:     Return to North Reading was photographed at CP RICK near Tuckerton while crossing the Schuylkill River on the Peacock's Lock Viaduct:   Followed by the 2 car ex-SEPTA set returning from Jim Thorpe. RDC1 #9168 was rebuilt from an ex-New York Central RDC3 car in 1975 at Reading with funding from PENNDOT, becoming an RDC1 in the process. The other RDC3 was a Boston & Maine car that was bought by the Reading in 1966 and rebuilt with a grill, lunch counter and table seating in the RPO/baggage section. Blue Mountain and Reading bought them in the mid 80s and put them in storage in the 90s. In 2014 RBMN pulled the pair off the dead line, installed sliding windows to bypass the troublesome AC and (re)started running regular excursions with them, the majority of which travel between Reading and Jim Thorpe PA:   |
