Yeah, it's all pretty amazing, but then this is 2022, so high bandwith/high tech processes are no longer all that rare. The system can read your bank card number, check to see if it's registered as a reduced fare account, and then unlock the turnstile for you. After that it can send the $1.35 charge to your bank; but before that it will check to see if you've hit your 12 ride cap for the week, and if you have, there will be no additional charge.This (fare capping) is the big plus associated with registering your card or you iphone or whatever device you're carrying. Anyone who prefers to use a standalone OMNY card is welcome to do that, but it seems like a suboptimal choice to me. |
