Re: Culver Shuttle/reconnecting Culver to 4th Avenue

Every now and again one of the local Bay Ridge papers prints vintage articles and a few years ago they printed one from 1939 concerning the Culver Line. It made reference to two concerns. One was the chronic car shortage on the BMT and the other was the congestion caused by the presence of the Culver Line in the 4th Ave subway. Both those problems were expected to be relieved by the routing of the “new city subway” over the Culver via a connection then under construction. Considering that the bMT had a congestion problem prior to WWII, It’s doubtful that the situation has changed significantly over the years so the only thing that reconnecting the Culver to the 4th Ave subway would accomplish would be to add to the existing congestion.
