She replaces R-16 6494 which was badly damaged in a wreck at Broad Street on September 26, 1957. Source: ERA New York Division Bulletin /May 1959 Tuscarora Almanac - May 7, 1966 - The Book of Wrecks Bronx, New York New York City Transit Authority IND Division R-4 No. 870 was damaged in a fire at the Concourse Yard. The car was not returned to service and was scrapped on August 2, 1967. The train left Woodlawn Road at 6:03 AM. The consist was (s) 1324-1315-1313-1323-1320-1321-1329-1312-1328-1322. The consist is painted "Redbird II" scheme. The car numbers were (n) 9356-7, 9587-6, 9570-1, 9477-6, 9333, and 9412-3. There was a brief attempt to refer to these cars as the “Silver Foxes” which lasted about five minutes. As soon as the railfans and public saw them they said “the Redbirds are back”.
