Posted by IRTRedbirdR33 on Mon Jan 17 12:14:36 2022 Tuscarora Almanac – January 9, 2022 – The Book of Last Runs New York, New York New York City Transit Authority This will be the last day in service for the R-32 subway cars. They will make four round trips between Brighton Beach, Brooklyn and 96th Street-2nd Avenue, Manhattan. The cars had been out of regular service for some time. The Transit Museum decided to give them a proper sendoff. On the three previous Sundays, December 19 & 26, 2021 and January 2, 2022 the cars ran in special service between 2nd Avenue and 145th Street. Sunday, January 9 would see their final runs. The last consist was (n) 3360-3361-3841-3840-3647-3646-3895-3894. Among the dignitaries riding the train on the final day were: Bill from Maspeth Catfish 44 Lou from Brooklyn Chruchbob Main R3664 and Mrs. Main R33WF Jersey Mike Keeping the Rapid in Rapid Transit Bob Anderson R30A South Brooklyn Railway R46 5636 Fred G Anyone else? Mr. William Padron was in attendance at trackside recording the event for posterity. It is thanks to him that we have the proper consist information. Car Note: There were a total of 600 R-32A/R-32 “Brightliners built by the Edward G Budd Company of Philadelphia and there were divided into two purchase orders; R-32A (3350-3649) paid for by the City of New York R-32 (3650-3949) paid for by bonds issued by the New York City Transit Authority. The first 450 cars (3350-3799) were identical. The last 150 cars (3800-3949) had modified interiors featuring back-lit car ads and baffle type fans. 594 cars were rebuilt from 1988-1990.
