That's why, whenever I rode on the standards on the Lonesome Larry, the motorman would goose them on the downhill portion of the 14th St. tunnel in order to build up a full head of steam for the uphill climb. Their gear pitch would slowly drop as they labored up the incline, as low as B below middle C before either cutting power at Bedford Ave. or the tracks leveled out before First Ave. |
