When I started in the TA in 1986, I was a station porter. I was assigned tower tricks where I was required to walk to the towers from stations. I preferred to have trains drop me off where possible especially carrying supplies. I hated the wooden walkways to 219 Tower and had to walk it one day during a G.O, with 20 pounds of hand towels, T.P. soaps and a new mop head. One of the walkway boards broke out from under me and a box of Kutal Hand Soap was the only thing besides myself that didn't fall 70 feet to the street below. Usually they would paint a white X on the boards where the wood was compromised. On work trains I had to hook down a homeball at Parkchester during a BIE. The first time I saw the fiberglass yellow decking was at Avenue X. Its better than wood which is god awful in the winter |
