I was doing schedules in the 1970s and 1980s and it was found that around 800AM 2 additional RR trains were needed to carry the passenger loading at the time. No additional cars were available but since the QJ/QB and RR shared the same car type, the first 2 QBs in the AM rush went through to Astoria where they returned S/B but only ran as far as Canal St where they laid up in C/Hall Yd till the PM rush. As it turned out, additional trains were needed in the PM rush so the midday RR layups became PM put ins operating to Astoria where they turned back and became the last 2 QBs S/O 57 St. |
