I will never forget the summer of 1980. By then, the R-10s had been scattered all over the place. I rode them as "E", "F", "GG" and even "B" trains through 1981. I remember they still occasionally appeared on the "A", just as they were during my childhood, when R-10s and prewar cars owned the Rockaway Peninsula.

(When the Slants were new, they sometimes went out to the ocean as "E" trains, and R-40Ms and R-42s would make appearances on the "A", but the Rockaway Division had scores of Arnines and Thunderbirds covering the service through about 1976 or so. The R-46 mess threw everything into chaos.
