Does anyone know when the last gate cars ran on the 3rd Ave el?

I cannot answer your question directly.

I can say that as of November 23, 1949, before the arrival of the "Q"'s the following el cars were available for service:

59 Gate Motors, 23 Gate Trailers, 259 MUDC Motors, 173 MUDC Trailers,
95 Composite Motors. The 59 Gate Motors includes the twenty of so motor cars operating on the Dyre Avenue Line.
