Last week I posted some pics I took of the West End line's from my bike on a 50 mile ride. These were taken on a second ride done today, but only 20 miles on the bike. Since Atlantic Avenue is a barrier I only took photos from south of there. There are photos on the north side on my Flickr from a few years ago.
The el over Van Sinderen was built under Contract 4 of the dual contracts around 1916, along with an upgrade over Snediker. To say it is over Van Sinderen is actually not true, it is over the ROW, Van Sinderen is very narrow as you can see below. I saw how these tracks and platforms were to be used but in actuality they were only in full use for 24 years. In 1940 the Fulton St el was cut back to a shuttle between Rockaway Ave and Lefferts, and of course it was never fully third tracked, nor was Ashland Place built. This complex in the photos was all built on those assumptions.
