I sure remember those Slants on the E (and sometimes F) in 1975. The slanted front and the noise made the E seem somehow like a SERIOUS EXPRESS train. I don't know if that makes sense to anyone else.For the rest of their lives, I thought they looked out of place on all-local routes, like the L or W. In December 1999, I rode a Slant J train from Broad to Essex- the only Slant J I ever saw. The letter "J" looked quite different than it did on the R40M/R42. On the Slant, it really looked like a hook... |
