Ridolph Tuscarora Almanac – June 17, 1956 – The Book of Last Runs – Rocky Mountain Division Chicago, Illinois Chicago Transit Authority On June 17, 1956, service ended on the #49 Western streetcar route in Chicago. It also marked the end for the flock of Blue Geese, Chicago's prewar PCC streetcars (although ironically by this time they were no longer blue, but Everglade Green and cream). One car, 4021, survives at IRM and is on static display, cosmetically restored to its original 1936 paint scheme. After this date, only two streetcar routes were still in operation: 36-Broadway (only the northern half; the southern half along State St. was converted to bus operation on December 5, 1955) and the entire #22 Clark-Wentworth route. All service was provided by two-man Green Hornets.
