Thanks for confirming that the trucks were slightly off-center. Three inches or more?
I'm guessing these cars were built for a fixed conductor position forward of the center doors. I cannot find a roster diagram for them.

In later years in Brooklyn the separate narrow doors up front seemed constricting when wide-front-door buses appeared. Unless I am mistaken, streetcars designed in the 1920's sometimes had front doors without centerposts. If I ever again visit Branford, I'll have to note width of PCC doors vs. other cars in their collection.
