The station had previously been opened from August 15, 1872 to March 19, 1873. It was closed two months after the line was extended south to Bowling Green (nee No. 7, Broadway). It would remain open until 1879 when it was closed to facilitate the construction of the junction with the 6th Avenue Line. It is a four story brick building known as “Union Station”. It replaced the previous depot which was destroyed by fire on May 19, 1918.
