The newly formed (1923) BMT took a look at the Ashland Place project and decided not to participate in it. Besides having to rebuild older elevated sections, install tracks and equipment, it would have had to buy 200 steel subway cars for $40 million. This car order would have been in addition to the Triplexes and Standard trailers that they had ordered. The BMT quietly backed out of the project in 1926. Ironically, Mayor Hylan had left office on Dec 31st, 1925. |
