The maximum traction trucks came off retired IRT Composite cars in 1950 when the Q cars replaced them on the 3rd Ave. elevated line. Even though they were lighter than the original Peckham trucks the Q cars were still restricted to carrying passengers only on the center express track. They were sent back to the BMT Myrtle Ave. line in 1957-58 after Steinway cars replaced them on the IRT as a labor saving measure since they were equipped with MUDC. However if they had retained their original Peckham trucks I don't think that they would have needed replacement at that time. |
